What Can You Expect of Your Tour In The Hague?

To Visit the Government Headquarters ...

We will see Binnenhof or the Dutch Parliament, from the 13th century, which is the administrative and political hub of the country.

We will see the Ridderzaal, the oldest building in the complex, Het Torentje, the prime minister’s office, and the Hofvijver, an artificial lake that beautifully decorates the political complex on the outside.

We Will Visit the High Lights of The City

We will also visit the Mauritshuis, the house where the count Maurits van Nassau lived. Today it is a renowned museum.

We will pass by the Sint James protestant church, which is considered to be one of the oldest buildings in the city, along with the Binnenhof. There, many royalty representatives were baptized, including the actual kingof the Netherlands: Willem-Alexander.

We will visit the Noordeinde, a palace built in the 16th century, which was the home of two Dutch kings: Willem II and Willem III. It is also the work space for the current king, Willem Alexander.

Are We Going to Take Pictures in Front of the Peace Palace?

During our Hague walking tour, we will also “stumble upon” many charming alleyways with shops and cafes that match the style of this city.

And of course, we will take a break to drink some coffee or hot chocolate. We will finish this first part of our day at the Peace Palace, an imponent construction of the 20th century, which aimed to seek world peace. And yes, we will take pictures 🙂

Here, many humanitarian matters are handled, such as asylum rights, maritime borders, diplomatic relations between countries, etc.

This building breathes history!

Then we continue to Rotterdam, the Most Modern City in Holland

Rotterdam Was Completely Rebuilt After World War 2

From there, we will go to Rotterdam, which is a very modern city. That is because the city was almost completely destroyed by a Nazi invasion during World War 2, with the objective of crippling the city’s important port.

We will have a lunch break at MarktHal, a famous complex of residential homes and marketplace in one. It has with many stands, shops, and restaurants with food from different countries and was built in 2014 by the architect Piet Blom. It is considered the first indoor market in Holland.

We Will See the Famous Cubic Houses

Next, we will get to know the famous project of the cube houses, also designed by the architect Piet Blom. This architect aimed to innovate in the concept of housing, taking advantage of every space possible. In the ‘80s, he then designed the famous cube houses. The houses are tilted in a hexagonal pole at 45 degrees. When we look at the tops of the houses, we see what the architect wanted to create: an abstract forest, in which the triangle tops of the houses represent the treetops.
